We are delighted to announce that, with immediate effect, Amy Thompson has been appointed to the position of Head Coach and Annie Thompson will assume the role of Assistant Coach. We are very privileged and fortunate to have two Level 3 coaches leading the team at Harpenden Swimming Club.
The Thompsons have been involved in competitive swimming since Amy joined her first club at the age of 10. Annie was quickly adopted onto the coaching team, and they joined Harpenden in 2005, following a training camp which Amy attended as a swimmer and Annie as a coach. Annie worked closely with the HSC Head Coach and achieved her level 3 coaching qualification in 2011. In September 2012, Annie took over as Head Coach and has continued in the role until now.
Annie has put in a tremendous amount of work over the years and has really enhanced the performance of the club. The Committee, on behalf of the membership, would like to thank Annie for her commitment as Head Coach and we look forward to working with her alongside Amy.
Amy was a member of the HSC senior squad until she went to university in 2008, and was also doing some coaching around her training. Whilst at university, Amy swam for her university team and coached at Durham City SC during term time and at Harpenden SC during the holidays. After graduating and starting her “day job”, she made the move onto poolside permanent and has become significantly involved over time, working her way through the coaching qualifications to achieve her level 3 in 2015.
Amy is keen to maintain the performance and direction of the club to develop our swimmers further. She is very enthusiastic and will work hard to prepare all our squads to reach their full potential and achieve their goals.
Over the last 2 years, both Annie and Amy have worked hard as a tight team to develop the club, and have achieved success at County and Regional Championships, as well as in the county leagues. More recently they encouraged the club to enter the National Arena League which was a huge success, gaining promotion in our first season. I am delighted that Amy and Annie will continue to work as a team, along with the other coaches and poolside helpers, to develop and motivate our swimmers; we feel the future of our club is in excellent hands.
