Due to a delay in the results getting to the league it took a while for us to get the Major League results through, so we never summed up our final rounds! Here is a quick summary of our league campaign.
Hertfordshire Major League took place over three rounds in January, February and March. We have two teams in this competition; our A team in Division 1, and our B team in Division 2. Over the rounds the swimmers really stepped up and worked hard, especially in the U14 and U16 boys age groups in both divisions where they were covering up to help out our 3 Open (16 & Over) Boys – you ideally want four of them in each division, so we were just a bit short!
Our first team found themselves in the lower half of the league for the final round, but they swam hard to finish 3rd on the night and 9th overall. We were delighted to retain our first division status, especially given the gaps in the team and swimmers racking up large numbers of races (many swimmers were entering double figures), and with swimmers moving up through the age groups we look forward to building on this next season.
Our second team were engaged in a relegation battle with Ware and Buntingford in their final round, and the swimmers did us proud, showing great strength of character in a tough environment. Again there were gaps, but so many swimmers gained experience and stepped up into races that they don’t normally swim and there was a large number of PBs over the rounds. After a close run fight the team finished 5th on the night and 11th overall so are back to Division 3 next season, but we are incredibly proud of how they performed and look forward to seeing them bounce back next year.
