Our Herts Major League campaign got underway on 10th January. After the initial excitment over the new hats (maroon with white, in case you were interested), it was down to business.
A PB and third place finish from new captain Phoebe in the 100m freestyle got the team off to a great start, swiftly followed by thirds from Alice R in the 50m backstroke and Caitlin in the 100m butterfly. The action ramped up as the under 14 100m breaststoke pairing of Libby and Joe took second and then first place respectively. Finishing off the first round of individuals the team went on a cracking run, with 5 top 3 finishes in the last 6 races, including our second win for John in the 100m butterfly.
Consistency was key in the first round of relays, with 4 in a row placing 3rd, finished off by the under 14 boys claiming second in their freestyle relay.
In the second set of individuals fatigue began to show, but there were still some great swims going in, with 3 place finishes from Izzy in the 50m breaststroke and Alice and Luke in the 50m freestyle, seconds from Juliet in the 100m breaststroke and Claire in the 100m backstroke, a first from Katialin in the 100m breaststroke and two wins from Michael in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
There was some great determination shown in the second set of relays, where our hard-worked swimmers normally begin to struggle. In the series we claimed a third and three seconds, before rounding off with fifth in the squadron, just 0.05 off 4th - what a finish!
We are incrdibly proud of the team performance on the night - we did more individual PBs than not PBs which off a long Christmas break is fantastic. Bring on round 2...
